Gen Con: Looking Glass

Projects: Gen Con Looking Glass

Role on Project

My role on this project was as Project Manager, UX designer and front end developer.

I created the base design documentation, UI mockups and wireframes. This project involved a lot of proof of concept mock-ups of various designs to get stakeholder approval.

The background was created in Photoshop at varying sizes for details to appear on zoom.

I created the the exhibitor icons and exhibitor windows using HTML (Haml), CSS and dynamic SVG rendering.

Tools & Technology

  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Figma
  • CSS / SVG
  • HTML (Haml)
  • Ruby on Rails Platform

The Looking Glass was created in 2020 for an alternative to an in-person exhibit hall. The Gen Con convention had gone online. This feature was a cornerstone of the online convention.

Looking glass dynamically displays exhibitor tiles in a virtual space. Each exhibitor tile opens to details which includes company information, important links, product shots and other details.

The map is searchable by keyword and exhibitor category. Searching filters the tiles setting non-results to translucent objects.
